Asphalt City follows Ollie Cross (Tye Sheridan), a young paramedic assigned to the NYC night shift with an uncompromising and seasoned partner Gene Rutkovsky (Sean Penn). The dark nights reveal a city in crisis; Rutkovsky guides Cross, as each 911 call is often dangerous and uncertain, putting their lives on the line every day to help others. Cross soon discovers firsthand the chaos and awe of a job that careens from harrowing to heartfelt, testing his relationship with Rutkovsky and the ethical ambiguity that can be the difference between life and death.

I truly didn't know what paramedics go through being first responders. Made me appreciate all first responders so much more than I already do. It was a good movie but a bit depressing too.

Was promising but missed the mark. It started out promising enough but then added a storyline that was not needed. Feels like they were not happy with showing a regular EMT they had to go the movie route where someone is accused of a murder. If you have ever thought about moving to NYC, this movie will change your mind. The violence, filth, and disparity portrayed in this movie is the biggest ANTI-NYC advertisement yet.

Asphalt City is an okay movie, but it’s not something I’m going to jump up and scream and shout about. It serves its purpose as an action thriller, giving you the intensity and fast-paced moments you’d expect, but I don’t think it fully delivers on the potential it had. The ending was probably the biggest surprise for me because it went in a direction I wasn’t expecting, and that helped give the film a stronger final punch. The cast is another positive. I thought everyone did a decent job developing their characters and working with the material they were given. The problem is that the screenplay is only okay. It’s not terrible, but it doesn’t give the actors enough to elevate the movie beyond what it is. Overall, Asphalt City is a decent watch and I’d probably watch it again, but after that, I’d move on. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is memorability. If you’re not constantly thinking about the movie, you can quickly forget it even existed, and you may struggle to remember
