Irresponsible playboy Arthur Bach (Russell Brand) has always relied on two things to keep him out of real trouble: his great wealth and the advice of his lifelong nanny, Hobson (Helen Mirren). But now Arthur must undertake the most-expensive risk of his life. He must choose between an arranged marriage that will keep him in the money or a more-modest life with the only woman (Greta Gerwig) he has ever loved. A remake of the 1981 Oscar-winning film.

Critics Consensus

An irritating, unnecessary remake that demonstrates the libertine charm Russell Brand exudes in supporting roles turn against him when he's star of the show.

Whereas [Dudley] Moore somehow managed to make his Arthur endearing and lovable, Brand's Arthur is puerile, infantile and hateful.

Though it has fleeting funny moments, this Russell Brand vehicle is a sputtering Pinto that surprises more when it runs well than when it lurches to a stop.

Loved it which makes sense why it has such low ratings. 2026 and it's still better than most comedy movies made. Everyone hates on Russell Brand but I love him, he's original. Also who doesn't love Garner and Miriam, great film.

These days it's all sequels & remakes anyway. Everything gets remade sooner or later. Russell Brand is the perfect actor to play arthur. He's like a modern day version of Dudley Moore. All remakes of movies especially comedies sometimes have trashier humor. This is one of them. But this movie also has heartwarming moments as well. This movie is a fun rob-com. Most remakes are unnecessary. And usually is not as good as the original. Or are a desperate attempts to try to be better than the original. But as far as remakes go this one is pretty good. Definitely think if Dudley Moore we're still around today & saw this modern day version of a classic. He would think it was bloody brilliant.

I will never understand the hate for this movie. Genuinely has so much heart and quirkiness. At the very least, every woman in this film is amazing and I love them.

1/2 star is too much for this putrid piece of filth. Tge first version was terrible but somehow this is even worse. Russell Nobrand is absolutely one of the worst actors ever.
