Young Leyva has a smile that lights up the screen, but the film makes the mistake of depicting several of the characters as though they were villains from some lesser movie. That the film overcomes this approach is testament to its essential spirit.

Through a number of fortunate coincidences actor and writer Travis Fine got his hands on a screenplay called Any Day Now which was written in 1980 by George Arthur Bloom, who was inspired by true events to write this script.

This is a well made drama about an interesting true story. I thought the performances were good and its relatively thought provoking - the discrimination faced by the couple is frustrating and I can certainly imagine it having happened. It is somewhat sentimental - some people may feel its a bit too cheesy for their liking but I wouldn't say its entirely over the top in a forced sentimentality sense. Its sobering and thoughtful and there's also some amusing moments. I thought it was a relatively solid watch with a good story and so I'd recommend it on that basis.

30 mins in,I don't like its tone...and I just cant watch any more...I couldn't get past grubby Alan C looking like Margeret Hamilton wearing a cheap wig...he most definitely does not make a convincing drag queen...and Garrett Dillahunt,who's hair also looked suspect...put me in mind of an axe wielding serial killer for some reason...just creepy.
