MC R @RT91491190 Aug 6 I don't know why, but I wanted to rewatch this. Because it's a long time ago and I was curious. Because I wanted to know ho funny this movie was. So I did watch it again and can say, it has definitely has it's funny moments. Seth Rogen got a double roll and he did a good job. After seeing The Invite I have to say that Seth Rogen deserves more credit about his acting skills than people give him credit for. Funny to see Sarah Snook here, I know her mostly as Shiv from Succesion. Like I said! Movie has funny moments and a great premise. But the movie can't hold the momentum and fell flat, the end was sweet though. Seth Rogen plays both Herschel, an old-world immigrant preserved in pickle brine for a hundred years, and Ben, his lonely modern great-grandson. The best parts come from the clash between those two worlds: tradition and modernity, family roots and individual emptiness, old prejudices and contemporary sensitivities. The film is not always consistent, and it sometimes struggles to decide whether it wants to be sharp satire, sentimental family comedy or absurd fable. Still, Rogen carries it well, and there are enough funny little moments to make it pleasant. It is not memorable, but it is odd, entertaining and warmer than expected.
