See more Kevin L @Lakeman 04/01/2025 A lovely meditation on loneliness by the brilliant Kore-eda, "Air Doll" deals with themes of what makes us human, aging and mortality, and how we fill the void when we lose those we care for. We can be detached, cold automatons. Or we can 'find a heart' and become whole. This is what happens, magically, to the sex doll Nozomi. But ultimately, it is a charade of sorts; it's a skin deep exercise that will end like so much unburnable trash. A very affecting lead performance by Bae Doona. Iura as Nozomi's kind love interest, and Itao as her lonely 'owner' give strong performances as well. And interesting approach to these themes, the film has a bit too much of a quirky, loosely written quality to it. More of a minor work, but certainly with its own merit within the director's work. 3.3 stars See more Nunn Y @RT47999558 12/27/2024 This was my first Koreeda movie(I’d seen his work in the Makanai). Being this story is about a pleasure doll I never imagined it would be quirky, touching, or somewhat dark. Bae Fiona really bodies her role as Nozomi and brings you along in her fairy tale. After watching this movie, I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and want to watch every Koreeda film.
