(C+) See more Chris L @Christoph2000 Mar 17 'There's only one thing impossible, and that's to love and to part.' Just a lavish, wonderful and eminently likeable film. That's about it: not splashy, informative or life-changing, but the movie couldn't be improved by swapping out a single frame. Up until Harry Potter, with which it shares at least two major actors, this was perhaps the greatest British cast ever committed to screen. Lucy Honeychurch may also be one of the grandest names ever heard of. It was a pleasure to see her views on love challenged until she, REO Speedwagon style, couldn't fight the feeling any longer, with plenty of nudging from Denholm Elliott's Mr. Emerson: may we all be granted a parent as supportive as him amidst our own romantic travails. See more Luca D @JoeCamel7 Feb 1 Great period piece, great acting, great soundtrack. On the other hand, the book is probably a lot more interesting, the dialogue is very slow and boring. The plot comes off very simple and I doubt the book had a simple plot. It's a very restrained romance and I doubt fans of romance would like that. It's more about the hard truths of relationships and less about lust. I would watch again but I can imagine why it would turn people off as the Edwardian lifestyle comes off as very slow and boring in this movie. See more O g @RT76089177 Jan 2 Some very good acting performances and some depth but although I hold nothing against the film it isn't to my taste See more Zachary K @ZacharyKing Dec 5 So many characters with boring names, most of the time I just had to take a guess as to who they were talking about, as well as love interests that leave you hoping the protagonist just goes to Athens by herself like she planed, if I wrote this, the ending would be so much different, dare I say better. Helena did fantastic though, along with Maggie Smith and Rupert Graves. 6/10 See more Harvey K @Harvey658 06/24/2025 I love love this movie which I perhaps have watched too many times such that you begin to see wrinkles.
