Critics Consensus

A Quiet Place artfully plays on elemental fears with a ruthlessly intelligent creature feature that's as original as it is scary -- and establishes director John Krasinski as a rising talent.

A familiar premise is redeemed by a nifty gimmick in this suspenseful horror thriller.

But the difficulty does not lie in the lack of verbiage, but in our prohibitions. We're an ableist society, often fearful of the "arduous" journey that comes with empathizing with the deaf.

Sure, it's just a movie but A Quiet Place is so effective that you'll be deathly afraid of making a sound - just like the main characters.

A Quiet Place is the type of film that comes with every piece calibrated for maximum effect, demanding that you watch, silently, as it all plays out. This, simply put, is brilliant filmmaking.

Think back to the time when you tried sneaking a midnight snack at high while everyone’s asleep. Now imagine if your family had the hearing of Daredevil, and getting caught will get you grounded from life. That’s basically A Quiet Place.

A Quiet Place is excellent because the silence-based horror premise is so simple and terrifying. A world where making noise can get you killed is immediately cinematic, and every footstep, toy, door creak, breath, and dropped object suddenly has life-or-death stakes. The movie turns silence into constant pressure. John Krasinski does a great job directing tension out of quiet. He understands that the scariest part is not just the creatures, but the challenge of trying to live normally in a world where normal sounds are impossible. The use of technology, communication, and survival routines makes the family’s daily life feel believable and fragile. The movie is great because it is not only about monsters. It is about love, courage, sacrifice, grief, and parents trying to protect their children. Krasinski and Emily Blunt give strong, emotional, and physical intensity, especially in moments where pain and fear have to stay silent.

I think everyone who hyped up this movie so much lied, it's an average movie. It didn't keep my attention so much and I found myself just waiting for it to end already. I thought that the husband and wife were fine and that's around it.
