What do we stand to gain by witnessing this willful attachment to one’s victimhood in existential defiance of the rich multitudes contained in a lifetime? It is also produced in an embarrassnlgly poor manner. Dialogues, music, angles, lights, it’s a disaster. My wife and I scrolled forward the entire time, it was unbearable. If you want to torture yourself for 1.5h - watch it. If you want - on the other hand - see 100% brilliance in a movie like of this genre, watch „Hope Gap with Annette Benning and Bill Neighy! The contrast to the idiot film „45 years" could not be bigger. And that’s ok; we are all so conditioned to a formulaic film. This one is not that. What I liked was the real life type of dialogue, and the acting. However, it’s a melancholy story, and the characters are pretty flat. I also had a hard time understanding Kate’s preoccupation with an old flame who died tragically years ago.
