Critics Consensus

Thanks to director Zak Hilditch's patient storytelling and strong work from lead Thomas Jane, 1922 ranks among the more satisfying Stephen King adaptations.

In cinemas, it might have been overshadowed by flashier rivals, but perhaps, on demand, this slow, but winningly bleak little tale will find the audience it deserves.

[1922] is a credible addition to a filmography where practically every thought the writer commits to paper is, seemingly, deemed fit for the screen.

The performances are great from top-to-bottom...this was a movie that probably should have been on the big screen.

1922 is a new type of Stephen King movie, executed with as much artistic inventiveness as passionate faithfulness.

1922 is an effective, chilling bit of work that boasts a revelatory lead performance and a compelling, gradual erosion of a man's psyche.

I had good expectations for this movie based on the critics scores. However, I found this slow in an uninteresting way. There were no redeeming characters. It was gross in an unnecessary fashion. It makes you feel sad for everyone and each animal. I am guessing that the critics must have been trying to kiss up to Steven King and this director with their reviews. I can find no other explanation for the high ratings.

I think Thomas Jane is an excellent actor after seeing this film. All of the actors do a great job.

Bit of a damp squib really - I only made it to the end in the hope of some twist or drama but it is slow and depressing and rather disappointing to be honest.
