Daniel M @RT53097422 Apr 2 I remember seeing this movie in theaters and can still hear the audience gasping at the reveal. I am amazed at the poor reviews because people wanted to see a happy love story. Unfortunately life isn't perfect and I think the life that was instilled in this story and RP's acting honored those who died. People often forget the humanity behind the death toll. RP does an amazing job portraying a young man struggling with his relationship with his father after his brother's suicide. I could deeply relate to Tyler's frustration. The cinematography and dialogue are exceptional compared to most of what is released today. This movie has the ability to evoke emotion. The cheesy bits: 1. See more Jacob B @RT89309114 Sep 16 The funny thing about this film's infamous twist? There actually was some foreshadowing and it wasn't thrown in for the sake of shock value. This isn't some episode of Lost where they try to trick you into thinking this is set during a specific period of time. It's made clear right off the bat when this film's set. The whole thing probably wouldn't be called exploitative if it was fictitious but, on the other hand, people do still talk about this movie, if only to matter-of-factly spoil the twist and see how the Internet goes "I'm sorry, what?!" It doesn't help that the film ends shortly after when the fallout of these events would've made for a compelling epilogue. Note that this is from the same director as underrated Superman-themed biopic Hollywoodland. While the scenes with Adrien Brody aren't nearly as compelling as the George Reeves portions, they did a good job capturing the sense of melancholy with a nation, especially young children, mourning a popular actor. So why didn't Allen Coulter do something similar here? As for the rest of the film before the ending? Meh, it's standard romantic drama fare meant to appeal to the Nicholas Sparks crowd when those movies were still profitable, albeit with a darker tone, even before THAT ending. Robert Pattinson delivers a decent performance here as a more likeable character than that vampire simp and life is not complete without hearing Pierce Brosnan, in his Irish brogue, deliver a precision F-strike to his staff. If I'm being honest, the actual romantic drama is rather boring and Pattinson doesn't have a lot of chemistry with Emilie De Ravin. The family drama was more interesting with Pattinson being a good brother to his little sister and their daddy issues. The two leads are basically overshadowed by the side characters. Not just the girl playing the little sister but also the guy playing Pattinson's college roommate/best friend who's responsible for instigating the events of the film since he wants the two leads to date and then break up as a form of petty revenge against "MY BAY-BEE"'s cop dad. Are we sure Remember Me didn't take some inspiration from She's All That, of all that-I mean things? *sigh* I think I've made my point. I did the thing where I used the twist ending to watch and review this film for thematic purposes but made damn sure to talk about something other than that manipulative aspect. Because divorced from the controversy surrounding its denouement, this is an average film that works better as a drama about a dysfunctional family than it does a love story meant to appeal to Twilight and Nicholas Sparks fangirls.
