Kevin P @RT55971421 Apr 10 An awesome Medieval war epic of Scotland rebelling against the tyranny of England. Mel Gibson is great and the battle sequences are so grand and exciting. The pacing is great, as each scene building up the momentum for the next. The movie has VERY Questionable historical accuracy. But fortunately, the movie leans heavily more into epic historical fantasy anyways. So, I just treat this like I'm watching Lord of the Rings, without the orcs or hobbits. The cinematography is fantastic, with sweeping landscape shots. The soundtrack is terrific and moving. William and Murron's romance is very cute and sadly cut short. The Scottish revolution is very exciting and satisfying to watch unfold. The battles are epic. The action scenes are brutally gory, but still stylistic and fast-paced enough to stomach. Despite this brutal violence, William is still very likable and earnest. It may be historical fiction, but it's VERY GOOD historical fiction and it kept me on my toes the entire runtime. What stood out most to me was how the film balances large-scale action with personal stakes. The story of freedom and sacrifice feels genuinely impactful, and the soundtrack adds a lot to the overall atmosphere. While it’s long, it rarely feels slow because there’s always something meaningful happening. Overall, I’d give it a 9/10 for its memorable performances, emotional weight, and epic storytelling that still holds up today. Just hearing the name of the movie, "Braveheart" sets an image in your mind of a man who is exactly William Wallace as portrayed in the movie. Your expectations are very much met and more. But still, regardless, it is one of my favorite movies that I have watched so far. if you haven't given this type of movie a try, and if you're a sucker for sad, brave and courageous stories of war, and if you love Scotland, then you have to give this movie a try. See more Par H @Parhwy Mar 8 Braveheart (1995) is a 178-minute-long film I watched on free-to-air telly in March 2025 (I own Braveheart in my Sony account however sometimes movies with ads is nostalgic. There is much to say about this film. As I always review with less than 1000 characters, let’s cut to the chase. I loathe Longshanks the historical person however his actor (Patrick McGoohan) and scripting are perfect, especially that "Is it?!" scene. Young Wallace’s acting and the directing are awful, except for the funeral scene. Wallace leaves his homeland as an 11-year-old boy and returns 10 years later as a 38-year-old man. Love the Irishman, Stephen, albeit I always side eye the cliches and stereotypes. Love the velvet dresses the Princess and her consort wear. The scenery and music are mostly ok; much use of Irish elbow pipes drains the impact, as do misty hills and muddy streets. Rewatch? After 10+ watches to date, I suspect so. Recommend? Yes (leave historical accuracy at the door). 7/10.
