When fussy Felix (Jack Lemmon) becomes suicidal over his impending divorce, he accepts an offer to move in with his best friend, messy Oscar (Walter Matthau). Felix drives Oscar crazy with his obsession over his soon-to-be ex. Oscar tries to get him out of his funk by arranging a double date with two wacky British neighbors, Cecily (Monica Evans) and Gwendolyn (Carole Shelley). When the plan backfires and Felix grows even more despondent, his friendship with Oscar is put to the test.

Having just watched 'The Odd Couple' for the first time, I can understand why it's held in such esteem. A brilliant script, great performances, but it didn't quite do it for me. I found Jack Lemmon's character Felix really annoying and felt I'd have strangled him before he had the chance to do anything dramatic, had I been in that situation. Ditto the giggly English sisters, who I just wanted to disappear.

"The Odd Couple" is a total classic, a comedic masterpiece that showcases the unparalleled talents of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Their chemistry is endlessly entertaining, as they work off each other wonderfully, bringing Neil Simon's brilliant dialogue to life with impeccable timing and uproarious charm.

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are excellent in this classic comedy. Although their characters were quite noisy and some of the gags have lost their appeal, there’s no denying that The Odd Couple is still a fun movie.
