Let's not mince words: Aliens is the greatest horror movie since Frankenstein. Here is a rare instance in which a sequel is infinitely superior to the original. Alien, the 1979 thriller, now seems like a preliminary sketch.

Absolutely the best movie in the franchise, some of the best movie quotes of all time, Bill Paxton is at his peak in this, They all are, it’s one of my top most entertaining movies, if you have never seen it, your life isn’t complete.

A perfect sequel to a perfect movie. Whereas Alien was a masterful slow-burn, atmospheric horror film, Aliens is a much more action-oriented, viscerally thrilling experience. Which one you prefer lies entirely on your own tastes, but there’s no denying that Aliens is one of the all-time great movie sequels. It goes bigger with the scale, the stakes are more personal, and there’s a lot more alien carnage-candy to feast on. I mean, what can you say? It’s just one of the greats.

What a sci-fi horror onslaught with great characters and intensity from the get-go. This is likely the #1 sci-fi movie of the 80s, ahead of Terminator, Star Wars & Trek, and Back to the Future. On a first watch or rewatch, avoid the directors expanded edition (slows it down). Great flick.

I always consider James Cameron a goo filmmaker, this however isn’t his best. It not being Cameron’s best and still being rated what it is, should tell you all you need to know about the quality he puts into his films. However I feel like that quality isn’t shown here and his talents weren't utilised the best they could’ve been. The shift from Alien to this is like whiplash, it feels like it isn’t even a sequel and is a complete tonal shift. However there is still a lot to praise here, the set design, the acting, and the writing specifically. I love the Alien franchise, but unfortunately this one fell short compared to the rest.
