William Newell was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. In his early acting career, Newell appeared in such films as the Lionel Barrymore drama "The Voice of Bugle Ann" (1936), "Sitting on the Moon" (1936) and "Navy Born" (1936). He also appeared in "Robinson Crusoe of Clipper Island" (1936) with Mala, the comedy "The Princess Comes Across" (1936) with Carole Lombard and the Gene Autry western "The Big Show" (1936). His film career continued throughout the thirties in productions like "Larceny on the Air" (1937), "Dangerous Holiday" (1937) and the Eddie Quillan mystery "The Mandarin Mystery" (1937). He also appeared in "Bill Cracks Down" (1937). Film continued to be his passion as he played roles in "The Lone Wolf and His Lady" (1949), "High Noon" (1952) and the western "Escape From Fort Bravo" (1953) with William Holden. He also appeared in the Judy Holliday comedy "Phffft!" (1954) and "Our Miss Brooks" (1956) with Eve Arden. Newell was most recently credited in the drama "Charming Billy" (2000) with Michael Hayden. Newell passed away in February 1967 at the age of 73.
