In a tight-knit Dominican American community in The Bronx, Rico (Juan Collado) is hustling his way through the summer, selling bootleg "nutcracker" cocktails out of a beach cooler and chasing girls without a care in the world. But when his teenage girlfriend, Destiny (Destiny Checo), begins crashing at his place with his family, turning their small apartment into a stage for their messy, complicated young love, it's only a matter of time before they’re hit with the sobering reality of growing up too fast in a city that waits for no one. Writer-director Joel Alfonso Vargas turns his hometown into the heartbeat of his debut feature, teaming up with discovery talent Collado and Checo, to deliver a raw and deeply authentic look at life in The Bronx. This is a very compelling, entertaining and frustrating drama. The best thing about this movie is the realistic, naturalistic acting, great location work and a real life type story. Sometimes we feel like we are watching a documentary. A fresh new voice in film.

One of the best of 2026. The story of the Bronx Dominican American community through the life of one young adult hustling to pay mad bills. Scenes of arguments in particular are priceless; we see ourselves in similar conflicts when pride plays our pathetic lines like a scratched record. Ricardo wants so much to do the right thing by the women in his life but also like a scratched record he makes stupid mistakes over and over. His predictability is frustrating, but we know he needs the patience of a saint if he isn’t to go the way of his neglectful and criminal dad - the delicate balance between enabling and abandoning. We see one of America’s dumb jobs, trashing the criminally unhealthy food and throwaway tableware of a beachfront dive. His mom is rarely home because she probably holds down two similarly dumb jobs to pay mad bills. The urban scenery is as much the star as the actors, and the music works phenomenally well. Masterful acting, directing, camera work; a minor masterpiece.

very interesting concept of only having one take per scene. though there is a reason why filmmakers follow the dynamic camera theory to present action to the viewers. The main character does not have the situational awareness while the women are overall loud. This movie is just a showcase of New York life, like many others. Many scenes just drag on and on with behavioral arguments or cityscapes.
