A century before the events of "Game of Thrones," two unlikely heroes wander Westeros. In an adaption of George R. R. Martin's novella "The Hedge Knight," a young and naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg, face a series of dangerous exploits. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and images of the last dragon have not yet passed from living memory, great destinies and powerful foes await these improbable and incomparable friends.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a welcome return to Westeros that works better in the buddy-comedy arena rather than solely slaying its competition.

Audience Says

Way more dopey than GoT, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms offers a refreshing, low stakes return to Westeros anchored by the endearing duo of Egg and Dunk.

By creating a more humane world in a landscape that feels increasingly unmanageable, a story that insists on small acts of goodness is almost radical. Go to Full Review

If you love and miss this seven-kingdomed world, Dunk and Egg make excellent companions for the return. Go to Full Review

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a refreshing reset, leaning into the traditions of chivalric tales, as if these characters had walked out of King Arthur’s world. Go to Full Review

As with Game of Thrones too, I can never quite suppress the heretical thought that, underneath the surface swagger, it essentially consists of the purest corn. Go to Full Review

Matthew S @Mattador24 1h This is fantastic. The only real complaint is the episodes and season are way too short. HBO please throw gazillions of dollars at this please 🙏🏼 See more HEATH R. @heathrobbins 3h HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms tells a grounded, human story in Westeros. The show is less magical than Game of Thrones, focusing on political tension, moral choices, and fragile power. The royal family remains central, though more human than mythic, which adds realism. The setting often feels like medieval Ireland rather than high fantasy, making the world tangible and lived-in. Despite its smaller scale, the series delivers strong tension and drama. Bloodshed and the consequences of ambition are handled thoughtfully, keeping the story gripping without relying on spectacle. The pacing and editing are precise, ensuring each scene lands effectively. The series captures the essence of early Game of Thrones, where character and consequence drove the story as much as dragons or battles. The acting is excellent, particularly Aegon and Duncan, who bring depth and nuance to political intrigue and moral dilemmas. The series shows that restraint and character-driven storytelling can be as compelling as epic fantasy, making it a strong addition to the Westerosi saga. See more Nathan B @MajinGroot 5h Best show on Television in the past few years, first episode is probably the weakest, but makes the following episodes feel like dynamite in a barrel for the amount of pressure and excitement that follows, and I've gotten more character progression in a 30 minute episode then most shows do for the majority of a season. See more Zulaiha M @Mei-Z 8h I highly enjoyed this. The writing was evidently very good, and the characters were brilliantly thought out. A shame that the episodes were so short, but I understand that it was due to the the story being from a novella. See more Shelly W @ShellyW 15h The story of a hero's journey. This series keeps it simple and to the point, intertwining memories into the story so as not to subtract from the overall arc but rather to enhance it. I don't want to write a spoiler here but the character building in episode 5 is stupendous and heartfelt. This just goes to show that a ton of money can be saved on special effects if the story has such depth that it pulls you in. That being said, i still rather enjoyed the costumes and sets that were used. I refer rather to the extravagant post film production aspect. See more Sami R 16h it's just great, even if the series didnt finish yet, i've loved every single episode so far, keeping close to books itself. more of dunk and egg! this is amazing if you liked GoT s1-7 or HotD s1-2 See more Read all reviews
